Our Take on Wiltshire

Wiltshire is one of those brands that doesn't need explaining. It's been in Australian kitchens for generations and it earns its place on merit -- the products are practical, fairly priced, and built to last longer than they cost. The Staysharp remains one of the genuinely clever ideas in kitchen design, and the bakeware and cookware ranges have the kind of breadth that makes Wiltshire a brand you can build a kitchen around rather than just add to one. It's not a prestige brand and it doesn't try to be -- it's a workhorse, and that's exactly why it's still here after 85 years.

Made in Melbourne. Found in Every Australian Kitchen.

Wiltshire started in Melbourne in 1938, manufacturing files and cutting tools during the years Australia was building its post-war industrial base. Over the following decades the company expanded into domestic cutlery and kitchenware -- and in 1964 made the decision that would define it permanently.

Dennis Jackson, a design engineer in Wiltshire's Melbourne facility, saw research showing most home cooks had no idea how to sharpen a knife. Rather than design a better sharpener, he asked a different question: what if the knife sharpened itself? The result was a spring-loaded sharpening mechanism inside a scabbard -- draw the knife and it sharpens, return it and it sharpens again. Stuart Devlin, the designer behind Australia's decimal coins, created the final form. The Staysharp launched nationally in August 1970, won a Prince Philip Prize for Australian Design in 1972, and has since sold over 8 million units across 37 countries.

Today Wiltshire is owned by Fackelmann Housewares, a family-owned German group operating across 30 countries. The range spans bakeware, cookware, cutlery, tools, glassware, and BBQ. The logic hasn't changed in 85 years: practical, well-made products built for Australian kitchens.

FAQs

What's the difference between Wiltshire Easycook and PureCook?

Both are non-stick cookware ranges, but PureCook is the step up. It uses a two-layer German Greblon ceramic coating that is completely free from PFAS, PFOA, lead, and cadmium, and is made from 100% recycled aluminium. Easycook is Wiltshire's everyday non-stick range at a more accessible price point. If you're cooking for health-conscious reasons or want a longer-lasting surface, PureCook is the better choice.

Is Wiltshire Staysharp worth it compared to a regular knife?

For most home cooks, yes. The self-sharpening scabbard means the blade is honed every time you use it, so you never have to think about sharpening. A regular knife requires a steel or whetstone to maintain its edge -- most people don't do it consistently, which means they're cooking with a blunt knife. The Staysharp removes that entirely. It's been the practical choice in Australian kitchens since 1970 for exactly that reason.

Which Wiltshire cookware ranges work on induction cooktops?

The Cucina, PureCook, Timeless, and Easycook Blue ranges are all induction compatible. If you're unsure about a specific piece, check the individual product listing -- induction compatibility is listed in the product specifications.

Can Wiltshire Easybake bakeware go in a fan-forced oven?

Yes. Wiltshire Easybake bakeware is suitable for both conventional and fan-forced ovens. As a general rule, reduce your oven temperature by 20 degrees when using fan-forced, as the circulating heat cooks faster. Always check the individual product for maximum temperature ratings.
