Slotted blocks are hard to clean and they drag the edge across timber every time a knife goes in or out. A magnetic block holds the blade flat against an open face instead, so nothing touches the edge and there is nowhere for moisture to sit.
It also means the block is not locked to one set of knife sizes. Anything from a peeling knife to a 300mm gyuto sits on the same face. Supplied empty.
