Stropping is the finishing move after the stone. Drawing the blade backwards across leather removes the burr that even a fine finishing stone leaves behind and aligns what is left of the edge. The difference between a knife straight off the stone and the same knife after a dozen passes on leather is immediately obvious in the cut.
Cowhide bonded to a magnolia wood base with rubber stoppers underneath, so it stays put on the bench and you can work with both hands on the knife. Natural leather with no compound applied, so use it bare or charge it with a polishing compound depending on how fine you want to go. A few passes every few uses keeps a keen edge keen and pushes out the interval before you need the stones again.
