In 1924, René Lalique and Peugeot brought together two of France's great houses — one master of crystal, one master of the mill — to create the "Feuilles" design: a salt and pepper mill cut entirely from crystal, patterned with Art Deco leaves. A century on, Maison Lalique and Peugeot have reissued it. This is that duo.
Each mill is formed from solid Lalique crystal, the leaf motifs of the original reproduced by the hands of fifteen artisans using techniques that let the pattern be cut into the crystal itself. The result catches and throws light the way only fine crystal does. Concealed within each body is a Peugeot grinding mechanism — stainless steel for the salt, case-hardened steel for the pepper — engineered to the same standard as every Peugeot mill since 1874, and carrying Peugeot's lifetime mechanism warranty.
It is a working pair of mills. It is also a piece of French decorative-arts history that belongs on the table it serves.
