Our Take on Cuitisan

We started stocking Cuitisan in 2019, well before the move away from plastic became the conversation it is now, because the idea was simply too good to ignore: stainless steel you can actually put in the microwave. Years on, it has only become more relevant. Customers come in worried about microplastics, about what leaches out of a plastic tub when you reheat last night's dinner, and Cuitisan is the honest answer, because there is no plastic against the food at all. One thing worth knowing so you are not caught out: because of how the stainless body heats, reheating takes a little longer than a plastic container would. That is the trade, and it is a good one, because the food comes out moist instead of dried at the edges. Buy it for the things you reheat and store every day, and it will quietly outlast every plastic container you have ever owned.

Metal in the microwave, solved

For as long as microwaves have existed, the rule was simple: no metal. Cuitisan set out to break it. Working with CNT in Korea, the country's leading maker of stainless food containers for more than fifty years, it developed a way for a stainless steel body to work with microwave energy rather than against it, and became the first brand in the world to put a stainless container safely in the microwave.

The trick is in the steel. Where an ordinary microwave fires waves straight into the food and dries it out, Cuitisan's body absorbs that energy and heats the food gently from the metal itself, holding moisture in. The same containers move from the freezer at minus forty degrees to a four hundred degree oven, so one piece covers storing, baking, freezing and reheating.

The material is built to last as long as that versatility suggests. An 18/8 stainless steel, high in chrome so it resists rust through years of daily use, with copper worked into the alloy for its natural antibacterial properties. The airtight lids seal with a patented double-chamber silicone gasket that keeps food fresh and stays leak-proof in a bag.

It adds up to a container designed to replace plastic outright rather than sit beside it. No microplastics, no staining, no odour, no warping, and fully recyclable at the end of a long life. A genuinely different answer to a question more people are asking every year: what exactly is my food being stored in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you really put stainless steel in the microwave?

With Cuitisan, yes, and it is the whole point of the brand. Ordinary metal is a problem in a microwave because thin edges and points cause sparking, but Cuitisan's containers are engineered from a specially developed stainless steel that works with microwave energy instead of reflecting it. The body absorbs the microwaves and heats your food gently from the metal, rather than the waves hitting the food directly. Use the container on its own with the lid removed, and keep it from touching the microwave walls, just as you would with any container.

Why does my food take longer to heat in a Cuitisan?

This is normal and it is the trade-off behind the technology. A standard microwave fires waves straight into the food and heats it fast by vibrating the moisture, which is also why microwaved food often ends up dry. Cuitisan heats differently: the stainless body warms up first and passes that heat to the food more gently, so it takes a little longer but holds the moisture in. Food comes out evenly warmed rather than hot at the edges and cold in the middle. Give it a bit more time than you are used to and stir partway through.

Is Cuitisan safe in the oven and freezer too, or just the microwave?

All of them. The same container handles a temperature range from minus 40°C in the freezer up to 400°C in the oven, so one piece stores, freezes, bakes and reheats. The only rule is to remove the silicone lid before using it in the oven or microwave; the lid can stay on for the fridge and freezer. That range is what lets you take a meal from the freezer, into the oven, and straight to the table in the one container.

Is Cuitisan free of plastic, BPA and microplastics?

Yes. The container that holds your food is solid 18/8 stainless steel, so there is no plastic in contact with your food and nothing to leach or shed microplastics, even when heated. The only plastic component is the silicone seal in the lid, which does not touch the food the way a plastic container's walls do. For anyone moving away from plastic storage over concerns about microplastics and chemicals, this is the practical reason Cuitisan exists.

Will Cuitisan stain, rust or hold onto smells like plastic does?

No, and this is where it quietly outlasts plastic. The stainless steel is high in chrome, which is what stops it rusting through years of daily use, and unlike plastic it does not stain from tomato or turmeric, warp in the dishwasher, or hold the smell of last night's curry. There is also copper worked into the alloy, which has natural antibacterial properties. It washes clean every time and looks the same in five years as it did on day one.

How do I clean Cuitisan, and is it dishwasher safe?

It is fully dishwasher safe, lid and all. For the best result, take the silicone seal out of the lid so both sides dry properly, then put everything in as normal. By hand, warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge is all it needs, since nothing stains or sticks the way it does to plastic. As with any new kitchenware, give it a wash before the first use.
